I have approached Christopher from Charleston Cable Company to do a review for their upper range cable, he get to me quickly (very responsive and efficient company), send me some Top of the Line Charleston Cable company’s creation, seriously appreciated their quick response.
Non-audiophilers can’t understand for sure why Audiophile spends hundred even thousands just for a cable which we can probably buy just for $10 at electronic shop. Well, most of us can’t understand why some can spend thousands on a similar handbag either, I will just have to say that
Many has debate the differences that audio cable made is so minor or close to none. But regardless how is you point of view, today I will wrote you a honest review and tell you what improvement I have gained while using Charleston Cable Company, from outlook to sound performance.
Most of the Charleston Cable I received here are made by UP-OCC,below is some of the benefits of UP-OCC stated in Charleston Cable Company official web:
-Low electrical resistance
-Rapid signal transmission
So I have noticed that Charleston’s cables do not have proper shielding as my BOS series cable or any other cable, this is not a big problem as I do not notice any shortcoming from the un-shielded Charleston’s cable, and Christopher is confident that braided configuration of Charleston cable is enough for most usage:
The litz braiding configuration is quite effective at rejecting noise and interference. This braiding method has sufficient noise and interfence rejection to make my cables suitable for all but the most interference heavy environment, ei in server rooms or close to power terminals.
I have been tryCharleston Cable Company interconnect along with YuLong D100 II, iFi iCAN, JDS Labs Odac, Hippo CriCri, Stoner Acoustic UD100 and also Bravo Audio Rock. Headphones being sed are Soundmagic HP-100, Thinksound TS01,TS02,Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250 Ohm, Goldring DR150, Creative Aurvana Live!, Sony MDR-1R, Shure Se425, RHA MA350 and NuForce NE-700M (New).
Charleston’s top of the line UP-OCC cable is really god looking,it is in red colour in configured as braided pattern. The plug is really some of the tough stuff! I prefer it over the bundled one, this provide much more professional and reliable look.
I have tested this with original bundled cable from YuLong D100II and Bravo Audio Rock, and think that sound is really a huge improvement when I listen with power cable from Charles Cable Company. Now, sound is leaner and cleaner, I can hear the separation and sense of space is better than before. Space somehow is bigger and separation is the most significant differences that I have ever listened to.
UP-OCC RCA to RCA Interconnect
This is another tough cable, it is in braided configuration as well, selling at 190USD(2 ft.), I don’t think this is pricey, audiophiles know how much a good/mid range RCA normally would cost, so given that this is top of the line of Charleston Cable Company, I am actually expecting pricier price.
The RCA plug is quite unique, it is not ‘plug and play’ like some, it required you to lock the jack at input (So it will tighten there and the connection is sealed). I am no used to this at first, because I see this motion to be rather troublesome, but as time goes by, I appreciated this design as we nothing can beat a god connection. For regular listener, probably they will only installed/uninstalled RCA interconnect few times , it is only when I have to A/B compared Charleston Cable with other cables that make me feeling troublesome.
When I played it with Monster RCA to RCA interconnect, sound is dry and lifeless. Every details seemed ‘disappeared’, so quickly I changed to Charleston Cable Company, I have experienced a totally new sound. Lively and fluidly is what I will use to describe the sound of RCA to RCA cable from Charleston Cable Company.
Mini to RCA Cable UP-OCC
There is really no much of difference for each of the cables as they are using same UP-OCC materials, and they are all using same kind of plug. The mini plug is defferent from what I normally seen in Neutrik plug, this plug is a lot more sturdier and better in construction.
When I compared it with my normal grade Mini to RCA Cable, the difference is day and night, I can hear more body and ‘presence’ of sound, also, sound is more crispier, bigger bass and grand sound are what I get when I change to Charleston Cable Company’s Mini to RCA cable. Detail is also somewhat easier to notice, overall sounded smoother.
USB Cable UP-OCC
What?? A audiophile grade USB cable?? Yeah, it cost USD140 for making the 2 ft, and this is another cable made by UP-OCC cable, the plug is high quality and unique.
Sound wise, Charleston Cable do give a cleaner, fuller and clearer sound than the stock cable. So it is worth to seek for a upgrade if you think there is some room for improvement in your current sound system.
Mini to Mini Interconnect UP-OCC
I have encountered quite a number o Mini to Mini interconnect before, I will have to say Charleston one build with good simplicity and nice jack.
Sound wise, when I compared directly head to head with my BOS cables, and I do think that Charleston cable are well ahead of my BOS series, the sound is more ‘body’ and more ‘presence’, without distortion or messy feeling of sound. The sound is simply fuller.
Will a better quality interconnect/cables influencing the sound? Without care on the science freaks, I do agree that a better cable do improve overall sound quality of your system. I honestly audited some significant sound change during my audition period.
It is a smaller improvement compared to upgrade amp,Dac or headphones, so if really tight on budget, changing the ‘core’ component is a wiser choice, upgrading cable is when you satisfied with your system’s sound signature, but you want to improve the overall performance.
If you are seeking for improvement, I sincerely recommended you cables from Charleston Cable Company, they are all well made and give you excellent sound.
